He said to pick up the gem and right click on the gemkutter,
not the other way around...
But, try all possibilities, can't hurt, can it.

yep, yep, I have a gemcutter in the bank..
The last
time I tried to right click on a gem, the
hard drive churned for a brief
moment, but nothing
happened to the gem.
