I don't think the tattered cloak is the item you earn when you complete your
initial guild quest. Mostly because mine as a rogue was a tunic. And a
magic users' would be a robe.
One thought I had, which is probably way wrong, but who knows, I am also a
tailor and know that you can make reinforced leather itmes which involves
combining metal boning (rods) into the leather. Maybe the thermal cloak
recipe is more like 1. reinforced cloak, 1. firewater, and maybe 1. belt.
I've tried quite a few combinations of pw cloaks/belts/rods last night and
to no avail.
