It's strange, some skills just seem to appear when you hit the right level.
I remember when I hit 17 (well the 2nd time I hit 17) I ran to the guild
hall to train only to find I already had the skill at a respectable level
(ie there was a coin cost to train in it). I saw the same thing with my
shadow knight the other day. He hit 9th went to go train his spell skills
and already had channeling at about skill 30 I believe. And it went up just
fine without putting a point into it.
