Except that most of us have to have groups to survive. That means we have
to depend on others to be available, competent, and agreeable. This isn't
always feasible. Any class which can avoid this requirement has an enormous
advantage in that they can always fight on their terms. They are not
subject to the vagaries and whims of the other players out there. Believe
me all it takes is one stupid group member and the bard in the group is
likely toast. This may not be true from 25-35 or so from what John has
said, but it certainly has been my experience up to 22, and even John admits
he's starting to see the bard taunt factor again after 40 as being way out
of line. Of course probably when you're 40+ you don't have many pickup
groups. Playing 2-4 days a week and 2-4 hours each time, pickup groups are
the mainstay of life. Or death as the case may be.

I guess that all depends what you considered balance. As it is most of you
powergamers avoided necros in groups until very high levels why because we
just don't have any good group spells until later on. Even the pets suck
during our mid level life. A melee class does it's job they are there to
keep mobs off the wizards and enchanters so they can cast there all powerful
spells. A cleric is there to keep eveyrbody healed and buff and so and so
on. This is a group oerientated game for the most part except for maybe
necros who are pretty bad in groups until late levels ( ie 44+ ). So in a
group oerientated game yes the game is pretty well balanced.
