which, instead of chasing straight after him, took a
convoluted path through the castle triggering other mobs.

If there were gypsy musicians, gypsy dancers, and/or
werewolves, then yes you were in the right place. The gypsy
lute seems to be semi-rare. I'd estimate about 1 in 10-15
gypsy musicians has one.
