They excuse they gave on the official website discussion forum
is that they don't want to do too much that'll free us from
having to trust other players.

Well, now you're getting into another hot topic of mine. I
think eventually anonymity in these virtual worlds is going to
have to take a back seat to maintaining a player-friendly
atmosphere.
