hehe I personally prefer the Staff of Writhing :) It's a ton of fun and it
interrupts casters. Pluss mine seems to proc VERY reliably (132 dex without
buffs) I'd say 2-3 times a fight. Sometimes more, rarely.... VERY rarely...
less. And with a 9dmg 33dly it does more dmg over time than the claws do =)
It *is* heavy though. In my offhand I use an Obsidian Shard. What can I
say, I like the pretty sparkles :)

I also have a pair of Obsidian Scimitars that I use for 1hs practice. And a
Gnoll Hide Lariet that I equip in my offhand for fighting casters. With the
staff and the whip and volley-firing pixie strike I can completely shut off
most casters (except skeletons... those darn things cast in milliseconds
( )

But, in answer to your question, the Claw is FAR superior to the whip...

19 dly 5 dmg is far superior to 28 dly 7 dmg in any fight. Your maxdmg/hit
goes down a little, your avgdmg/hit goes down even less and your dmg over
time goes up dramatically.

Easiest way to calculate it is just take a number, say... 500 (average
duration of a fight) and divide it by each weapon's delay to get the number
of times each weapon will swing during a fight. Then multiply the weapons
delay by it's number of possible hits. (around 6 for the claw, around 8 for
the whip). This will tell you which has a higher damage potential. The
claw will win hands down.

Generally:

For every 3 delay (reduction) a weapon of 1 less dmg will be the equal of
the higher dmg weapon, thus:
28dly/7dmg is equal to 25dly/6 dmg is equal to 22dly/5 dmg is equal to
19dly/4dmg. But at a *4* curve the numbers look like this:

28dly/7dmg is inferior to 24dly/6dmg is inferior to 20dly/5dmg is inferior
to 16dly/4dmg.

Thus we see that the claw is significantly better (as it's in the middle of
the next to lowest range for delay, meaning it's more superior than a 20dly
weapon, which is ALREADY superior ;)

Hope this gobbledie goop helps. I'm not the best at explaining average dmg
over time
