I've made the trip 6 times now, no problem. Here's what I do.
I ride the elven warship past the BB shuttles and dive off when closest to
the barge island.
I swim to the barge island and wait for the barge.
I take the barge to Oasis.
Coming back is easier.
Get on barge in Oasis.
Ride barge to island, use invus to get on boat to Overthere
Jump off boat to Overthere and swim to beach.

You lose Dark Elf form everytime you zone -- and I am not sure you can
cast it on a boat (Enchanters can't cast illusions. If it considers that
a spell...)
AND< if your deity is other than Agnostic, then they'll see through the
illusion
anyway.
AND if you've been fighting in Venril Sethir, even if you're Agnostic,
forget it.
If you're lower level, be careful of spectres attacking you on the raft in
oasis
