And a lot of bards; granted there are a lot of people who LIKE using their
weapons and more power to them (this is a game after all) - but I'm amazed
by the number of group members who tell me that they've never seen a bard
not using weapons during a fight (and I'm talking at places like Sebelis)...

Was camping the moat corners in Karnors this weekend. Had a warrior, a
second bard, wizard, cleric and enchanter in the group. I was weaving the
three chants (with Selos drum) during every fight. Based on the numbers
posted on the www.eqsongs.com website, I was doing around 172pts of damage
per tick (when all 3 stuck). As many people have stated before on this
list, this is a helluva lot more damage than I can do with weapons equipped.
Like Minkin, I was doing so much damage to the mob that it almost always
ignored the warrior and attacked me. Still amazes me though when other
classes ask me why I am not meleeing with weapons. Even though the game has
been out for almost two years, there are still a lot of people who don't
realize what all a bard can do.

I hear you on the receiving end of the whack whack whack part...

This weekend i got my 3rd chant and boy oh boy do the tanks have to taunt
now. It was great cause the lower lev bard in the group would do the rest of
the buffs/songs. Often the mobs would leave the tanks and come for me. 3
chants = Fun fun fun.

I also think it depends a lot on the bard, and on the group as a
whole...several factors:

1. How comfortable is the group with bard mezzing?
2. How comfortable is the BARD with mezzing? .. How skilled? (i.e. can he
keep far enough away that hes not getting beaten upon...
3. How good is the group.. (i.e. assist, giving the bard room to mezz etc.)

I've seen both good and bad bards do this... I think the biggest factors for
success are that the bard needs to be comfortable doing it and he also need
to communicate. For instance, I hate charming, i'm still not comfortable
with it. If I'm in a group and someone says "charm it".. i'm like .. oh
ugh.. eep.. uh.. *whack whack whack die* (me not the mob)... so I usually
tell people in the group that i'm nto that good at it yet (still practicing)
and that i would rather either mez or just tank the dang thing.
