I'm not arguing it's effectiveness. That I concede willingly. It's
the "careful' part I take exception to. I'm in the middle of a wide
open area, run up to a mob, attack, spin in place looking for npc's,
(take damage), see none, start weaving said songs, three rounds latter
WHAM, a NPC materializes from nowhere and kills me in three mighty
whacks. I have no intention of spinning in place every round looking
for npcs while fighting, I have enough trouble weaving and shifting
without that... I think once your high enough that NPC's don't
insta-kill you this might be viable but at my level its not worth the
run time and exp loss.

If you are level 17, you were using Dissonance, not Discord
(L18). Dissonance, I feel, doesn't do enough damage to be
used on its own.
Weaving Discord, Dissonance, and Hymn while switching
instruments *does* work. I'd say it's roughly on par with my
melee ability, which makes it much more effective than melee
if I'm fighting multiple mobs (especially if there are a lot
of annoying greens mixed in). It's probably not something you
want to be using in a dungeon though.
