I think something else must have been in effect for you. I have done the
SSoL quest over a dozen times and have had no problems. My first inventory
slot is never open unless I am naked. I have also done almost 100 other
quests with no problems. The inventory slot does not seem to matter except
in those cases where you do not have room for the object because it is too
big for the container spaces you do have. In that case I once lost the
scythe from Lempeck because only a small box had open space.

It has happened to me...when I was playing my cleric and the SSoL quest...I
had to do it all over again cause when he was suppose to give me the cure

You may be correct... this is only based on what I've read on the Concert
Hall. At least one, or two, of the Bards over there had the same thing
happen (no stone), then they did the quest again with the #1 slot open and
did receive the stone, -and- they stated that they had seen the same bug
before with other NPC's (hence the reason for trying it).
And besides, it doesn't hurt anything to give it a shot. But like I said,
this is second hand information and I've yet to experience anything like it
personally.
