# Privacy Policy — WhatsApp Chat Exporter

WhatsApp Chat Exporter ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that exports
a user's own WhatsApp Web conversations to local files (TXT, CSV, JSON,
Excel, and optionally a ZIP containing media). This policy explains what
the extension does and does not do with your data.

## Summary

**The extension does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any user
data with anyone, including the developer.** There is no backend server, no
analytics, no tracking, and no third-party service integration of any kind.
Everything the extension does happens locally, inside your own browser.

## What the extension accesses, and why

Nothing above is ever sent over the network by the extension. The extension
has no server to send it to.

## Permissions explained

- **activeTab** — lets the extension interact with the WhatsApp Web tab you
  have open when you use it.
- **sidePanel** — displays the extension's controls as a docked panel.
- **storage** — saves export progress locally (see table above), for the
  Stop/Resume feature only.
- **tabs** — used only to mute/unmute the WhatsApp Web tab while the
  extension briefly auto-plays a voice note or video to capture it as a
  file (so it doesn't play out loud), and to detect which tab is WhatsApp
  Web.
- **Host permission for `web.whatsapp.com`** — required for the extension's
  content script to read the chat page's contents, which is how messages
  and media are found and exported. No other website is ever accessed.

## Third parties

None. The extension does not use analytics, advertising, crash-reporting,
or any other third-party SDK or service. The only external destination a
user can voluntarily navigate to is PayPal, via an optional "Support this
project" donation link in the panel — this is a normal outbound link the
user chooses to click, opened in a new browser tab; the extension does not
share any WhatsApp data with PayPal or anyone else in the process.

## Data retention

The extension itself retains nothing beyond your own browser's local
storage (used only for in-progress export state, and only until the export
finishes or you discard it). Exported files exist only where your browser
saves downloads — under your control, like any other download.

## Children's privacy

The extension is a utility for exporting a WhatsApp account's own data and
is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect any data from
anyone, including children, because it does not collect data at all.

## Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Any
material change will accompany a new version of the extension.
