Title: Privacy Policy — Select and Search Pro Last updated: 2026-03-22 Overview Select and Search Pro (the “Extension”) helps you select text to copy, search with custom engines, ask AI, or forward links via a quick toolbar and a right-click menu. Data We Collect The Extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data to the developer. The Extension does not run a developer-controlled backend service. Data Processed on Your Device To provide its features, the Extension may process: - Selected text (when you select text and click a toolbar button or a context-menu item) - Clipboard text (only when you click “Forward” and the Extension attempts to read a URL from your clipboard) - A target URL you provide or configure (search engine URL templates and AI destination URLs) Data Stored on Your Device The Extension stores certain data in Chrome storage: - Settings and engine configuration (stored via Chrome sync storage so they may sync across your Chrome profile) - Search history (stored locally on your device; limited to recent items) - A temporary “pending AI query” value used to auto-fill ChatGPT/Gemini prompts; removed after use Network Access and Third Parties The Extension may open third-party websites to perform searches or submit AI prompts. When you choose an engine (e.g., Google, Bing, Baidu, Metaso) or an AI site (e.g., ChatGPT at chatgpt.com, Gemini at gemini.google.com), your query/prompt is sent to that provider as part of normal web navigation or form submission. Those providers’ own privacy policies apply to any data you submit to them. Data Sharing The Extension does not share your data with third parties on behalf of the developer. Any data you send to a selected search/AI provider is sent directly from your browser to that provider based on your action. Permissions Explanation - contextMenus: Adds right-click menu items for “Search / Ask” actions on selected text. - storage: Saves your settings, engine list, and local search history. Content Script Access The Extension runs content scripts on web pages to detect your current text selection and show the floating toolbar. It also runs on chatgpt.com and gemini.google.com to auto-fill your prompt when you use the “Ask AI” feature. User Controls You can disable the selection toolbar, change or remove search engines, and clear local search history from the Extension’s settings page.
