This inscription has been assigned to the reign of Sundaṟa-Chōḷa on account of its script (M.E.R. 1934, II, 11). It records the death of Poṅgala-Vēmbaḍiyār, a resident of Vēḷūr after rescuing the cattle in a cattle-raid made in this village by another person also called Vēmbaḍi, son of Poṅgalat-Toṇḍaimāṉ of Mēl-Vēḷār in Miykoṉṟai-nāḍu. To judge from the name and surname of the combatants in this fight, it seems to have been a family quarrel between two members of the same clan, both subordinate to one chief Vēṭṭuvadi Vāṇakōvaraiyar.
