<supplied reason="subaudible">This is</supplied> the stone <supplied reason="subaudible">of</supplied> Mārkaṭalaṉ, the son <supplied reason="subaudible">of</supplied> Turumāvaṉār <gap reason="ellipsis"/> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>cēvarpari Aṭṭuṅ koḷḷi</foreign></supplied>, he who fell at the time the royal Bāṇa Muttaraiyar attacked <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>eṟinta</foreign><note>Literally "destroyed".</note></supplied> his <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tañ</foreign><note>That is, <foreign>taṉ</foreign> in <foreign>sandhi</foreign>.</note></supplied> uncle <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>ciṟṟappaṭikaḷ</foreign><note>That is, <foreign>ciṟṟappaṉ</foreign> + <foreign>aṭikaḷ</foreign>.</note></supplied>, when marching <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>vantu</foreign><note>Literally "coming".</note></supplied> upon Mēṟ-Kōvalūr <gap reason="ellipsis"/> <supplied reason="explanation">nāṭu pāviya</supplied>.

It bears a bow in the left hand and a short stagger in the right hand. There is a festoon over the right hand. To the right of the figure is seen a casket, mirror while on the side of the left leg is seen a spout.</quote>

The inscription is described as follows in <bibl><ptr target="bib:IAR1971-1972"/></bibl>: <quote>An inscription from Tandrampattu, in characters of about the eighth century A.D. and dated in the seventh year of the reign of Narasimhavarman, records the death of Marudakalan, son of Eruma[nda]nar while Merkovalur was auacked by Vanako-Puttaraisar.</quote>
