Vāṇaṉ, the son of the general Kōṭaṉ Mēṭṭiṇaṉ, fell <gap reason="ellipsis"/> <supplied reason="subaudible">when</supplied> he came to besiege <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kai koṇṭu</foreign><note>Literally: seizing, surrounding.</note></supplied> Maṇikkal in Vēṇāṭu, alias Iḷaṅkuṉṟi in Vēṇāṭu.
