Second year of the glorious Cōḻa king Kulōttuṅga, emperor of the three worlds, alias the king Rājakesarivarman.
After dicontinuing tavirttu the arrangement concerning the blind people kuruṭar-kaḷ-ai who utter pāṭivar the holy hymns in the temple of god Āḷuṭaiya Aḻakiyatēvar of Tiruvāmāttūr, which is a tēvatāṉam located in Vāvalūr-nāṭu a subdivision of Paṉaiyūr-nāṭu a subdivision of Irājarāja-vaḷa-nātu,
we have given — as mutal land rights kāṇi-y-āka in this village, which are the land rights kāṇi for the recitation of holy hymns tiruppatiyam in this temple —
to Rājarājappiccaṉ, alias Poyyāta Cēvaṭi Tēvakaṉātaṉ, and his relatives vaṟkattār,
who sing the holy hymns tiruppatiyam in our tēvāramNote on the meaning of this term in this context..
Since it happened vantaimaiyilLiterally, "in the coming of." that heThat is, the ruling king. made the grace pirasātañ ceytu of a royal order, gracefully proclaiming that:
Let it be written on stone that,
having appointed iṭṭuLiterally, "having put." his relatives,
it is given viṭṭuLiterally, "leaving." to them,
according to the agreement nivanta-p paṭi, which gives viṭṭuLiterally, "leaving." to blind men in previous years, having them singing holy hymns tiruppatiyam
,
- so that there be sixteen persons, that is, the blind men who used to come singing according to what these blind enjoyed in the previous years, and two persons as supervisors kaṇkāṭṭuvārSee MTL, s.v. kaṇ-kāṭṭuvāṉ, n., "one who leads the blind," referring to this very inscription. to them,
- so that there be a patakkuThat is, 2 kuṟuṇis. for the sake of pērālLiterally, "in the name of." eighteen persons,
- so that there be three kalams of paddy per day,
there are one thousand eighty kalams of paddy for three hundred sixty days,
- so that there be one gold coin for the sake of pērālLiterally, "in the name of." capital for clothes puṭavai-mutal,
- so that there be twenty kalams of paddy for one gold coin, that is, for a total of eighteen gold coins,
- so that there be one hundred twenty kalams of paddy per vēli for one thousand four hundred pots of paddy which comes as such vanta,
there are twelve vēlis of land given in Kaṭuvaṉūr, which is a devadāna of this god.
So that there be these twelve vēlis of land,
so that they become the ones who have to come ceytu vara kaṭavarkaḷ as those who do recitation viṇṇappam ceyvār of these holy hymns it-tiruppatiyam,
in a manner that eighteen persons, singers of this tiruppatiyam come,
having taken in hands according to the way land of this village is distributed (?) kalanta ,
coming for three saṁdhyās,
having taken in hands the land of these blind men of the previous years, who used to do the recitation of tiruppatiyam
we have given as land rights kāṇi to Rājarājappiccaṉ, alias this Poyyāta Cēvaṭi Tēvar, and his relatives.
