	<p n="1">Hail! Prosperity! In the 29th year <supplied reason="subaudible">of the reign</supplied> of the glorious king Rājarāja-Rājakesarivarman, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> Śrī-Rājarājadeva, who, <hi rend="italic">etc.,</hi><note>The historical introduction of this inscription is identical with that of No. 15; it reads, however, <foreign>taṭikaipāṭi</foreign> (l. 4), while Nos. 15 and 16 have <foreign>taṭīkapāṭi</foreign>.</note>——I, the cultivator <supplied reason="subaudible">Veḷḷāḷaṉ</supplied> Aruvā-<supplied reason="undefined">Kīḻāḷ</supplied> Muttikaṇṭaṉ of Marut<supplied reason="undefined">a-n</supplied>āṭu in Veṇkuṉṟa-kōṭṭam, gave one perpetual lamp to <supplied reason="subaudible">the god</supplied> Mahādeva of the holy Aṟiñcīśvara <supplied reason="subaudible">temple</supplied>,——which the lord Śrī-Rājarājadeva had been pleased to build as a resting-place for the king who fell asleep at Āṟṟūr, in Mēṟpāṭi, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> Rājāśrayapuram, <supplied reason="subaudible">a city</supplied> in Tūñāṭu, <supplied reason="subaudible">a subdivision</supplied> of Perumpāṇa-pāṭi in Jayaṅkoṇṭa-Cōḻa-maṇṭalam,——<supplied reason="subaudible">and</supplied> assigned to <supplied reason="subaudible">this lamp</supplied> ninety-six full-grown ewes, which must neither die nor grow old.<note>Compare Vol. II. p. 375, note 3.</note></p>
	<p n="14">Having received <supplied reason="subaudible">these ewes</supplied>, I, the shepherd Ēṇi Gaṅgādharaṉ of Rājāśrayapuram, shall pour out daily, as long as the moon and the sun endure, <supplied reason="subaudible">one</supplied> <foreign>uḻakku</foreign> of ghee, <supplied reason="subaudible">measured</supplied> by the <foreign>Rājakēsari</foreign>.</p>
