<p n="1">Hail! Prosperity! In the 14th year <supplied reason="subaudible">of the reign</supplied> of Śrī-Mummuṭi-Cōḻadeva, <supplied reason="subaudible">alias</supplied> king Rājarāja-Rājakesarivarman, who, <supplied reason="subaudible">in his</supplied> tender youth, during which,——having formed the belief<note>See Vol. II. p. 249, note 2.</note> that, as well as the goddess of fortune, the goddess of the great earth had become his wife,——<supplied reason="subaudible">he</supplied> was pleased to destroy the ships <supplied reason="subaudible">at</supplied> Kāntaḷūr-Cālai and conquered by <supplied reason="subaudible">his</supplied> army Kaṅka-pāṭi, Nuḷampa-pāṭi, Taṭiya-pāṭi,Vēṅkai-nāṭu and Kuṭamalai-nāṭu,——deprived the Ceḻiyas, whose lustre had been growing, of <supplied reason="subaudible">their</supplied> splendour;——we, the assembly of Tiruvallam in Mīyāṟu-nāṭu, <supplied reason="subaudible">a subdivision</supplied> of Paṭuvūr-kōṭṭam, have received fifteen <foreign>kaḻañcu</foreign>s of gold, weighed by the balance <supplied reason="subaudible">used in the case</supplied> of charitable edicts <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>dharma-kaṭṭaḷai</foreign></supplied>, from Īrāyiravaṉ Pallavayaṉ, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> Mummuṭi-Cōḻa-Pōcaṉ, the lord of Araicūr <supplied reason="subaudible">and a native of</supplied> Araicūr in Pāmpuṇi-kūṟṟam, <supplied reason="subaudible">a subdivision</supplied> on the southern bank <supplied reason="subaudible">of the Kāvērī</supplied> in Cōṇāṭu.</p>
<p n="11">For these 15 <foreign>kaḻañcu</foreign>s of gold, <supplied reason="subaudible">we</supplied> assigned one thousand <foreign>kuḻi</foreign>s, <supplied reason="subaudible">measured</supplied> by the rod of Ciṟṟampalam,<note>This is the Tamil name of Cidambaram.</note> of land which formed the eastern <foreign>mañcikkam</foreign><note>The same word occurs in an inscription at Māmallapuram; see Vol. I. p. 66, note 5.</note> of Vā<supplied reason="undefined">ṇa</supplied>samu<supplied reason="undefined">dr</supplied>am, a hamlet to the west of our <supplied reason="subaudible">village</supplied>,<note>Compare above, No. 12, text line 3.</note> to <supplied reason="subaudible">the god</supplied> Mahādeva of the Cōḻēndrasiṁha-Īśvara <supplied reason="subaudible">temple</supplied> at Rājāśrayapuram in Tūy-nāṭu, for burning one perpetual lamp as long as the moon and the sun endure.</p>
<p n="16">These one thousand <foreign>kuḻi</foreign>s of land we, the assembly, made over <supplied reason="subaudible">to</supplied> Kaṇṭaṉ-Maṟavaṉ, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> Cōḻendrasiṁha-Mā<supplied reason="undefined">yi</supplied>laṭṭi, of Caṅkarappāṭi, <supplied reason="subaudible">who resides</supplied> in the high-street of Arumoḻideva in this Rājāśrayapuram, in order to supply to this perpetual lamp <supplied reason="subaudible">one</supplied> <foreign>uḻakku</foreign> of ghee daily.</p>
