I consider that the final iti in line 13 includes what begins by <foreign>svasti</foreign> to the end. </note> His Majesty <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śrī</foreign></supplied> Budhagupta, Great King and Emperor <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>mahārājādhirāja</foreign></supplied>, Supreme Majesty and Supreme Lord <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>parama-daivata-parama-bhaṭṭāraka</foreign></supplied>, the Lord of the Earth, when the Mahārāja Brahmadatta, governor designated by His Majesty <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tat-pāda-parigr̥hīta</foreign></supplied> was managing affairs in Puṇḍravardhana province, it has been said <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>iti</foreign>, line 13</supplied>: </p> <p n="2-3">Hail! He argues in note 7 that Viśvāsa could originally denoted the village accountant. Thus, be so kind as to make the favour of waste lands that are without revenue charges<!-- amwb l5 : here I translated kśetrāṇām , if we conserve daba's reading (kṣetrasya), change the plural into a singular --> after receiving gold from me according to the custom of sale followed in the villages. </p> <p n="6-7">Since it has been ascertained through the investigation made by the record-keeper Patradāsa that it is appropriate, he informs this custom of sale applies. Thus it ought to be given for the sake of his merit by the supreme lord favored by the Great King <supplied reason="explanation">ie. Brahmadatta</supplied> Basak has a different understanding and considers the genitive as the recipient of the gift : so be it given to him by his Majesty, the parama-bhaṭṭāraka for the increase of merits --></p> <p n="7-11">After having again considered the certification given by the aforementioned <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>asyaiva</foreign></supplied> Patradāsa, after having collected from the hands of Nābhaka two <foreign>dīnāra</foreign>s and after it has been received in cash <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>āyīkṛtya</foreign></supplied> by the two appointed guardians <supplied reason="explanation">sthāyapāla</supplied> Kapila and Śrībhadra<!-- amwb : for the meaning I suggest for sthāyapāla See Monier-Williams p.1262 and 1264.
