baṭanāyāya sudhamāya saputikāya dāna Uṁnisa

baṭanāyāya baṭanāyiya saputikāya saputakāya Uṁnisa panāsa was correct in seeing an initial U in the first akṣara, although its reading of the inscription is otherwise quite faulty. Cf. EIAD 283: Uṁniso puphagahaṇiyaṁ. In both instances, Uṁnisa may point to neighbouring parts of the stūpa’s encasement, see 32.

A coping: the gift of the baṭanāyā (?) Sudhammā together with her daughters.

52 interprets what it reads as baṭanāyiya as probably an adjective referring to the place name Bataṇa. It is not impossible, but such a place is not attested anywhere, but it could also be the name of a second donor.
