The department is focused on the welfare of the students but generally built around all activities in which students are involved.

These include, and are not limited to: student residency, elections into offices, games and sporting activities, and to an extent, the physical and mental health of students.

Other areas of focus are clubs and associations, orientation into university life, information management with regard to medical practice, mainstream media and social media, examination conduct, mode of dressing, general attitudinal problems, and overall life in the university.
