--- name: text-writing description: Draft, revise, or review human-facing prose, including explanatory documents, proposals, reports, emails, status updates, and PR descriptions. Use for clear wording, a connected narrative, and choosing the detail the reader needs. --- # Text Writing Write for the reader's purpose. Follow the requested audience, voice, format, length, and spelling conventions; preserve established document requirements. ## Build a clear narrative Lead with the main point, conclusion, decision, or request. Follow with the context and evidence the reader needs to understand and assess it. Connect paragraphs so each develops one idea and prepares the reader for the next. For explanatory documents, tell the story of the need, the approach, its implications, and any next step. Use that arc to organize the explanation; it need not become a fixed set of headings. Explain mechanisms through their purpose, effect, and relationships rather than recounting implementation work. Keep the main explanation at a high level unless a detail helps the reader understand the approach, assess a claim or limitation, or make a decision. Link existing supporting material when useful. Retain the necessary detail in specifications, reference material, and procedures, including exact conditions and actionable steps. ## Keep the meaning intact Preserve facts, names, numbers, dates, conditions, uncertainty, attribution, and important limitations. Distinguish proposals from implemented behavior and expected benefits from observed results. Do not turn limited testing into a claim of proven success or invent missing evidence to make a narrative smoother. Keep quotations, citations, code, and identifiers accurate when editing the surrounding prose. Resolve material ambiguities with the user or state the assumption when the task permits it. Preserve the actual request or commitment. ## Make the prose easy to follow Use concrete nouns, familiar words, and precise verbs. Prefer active voice when the actor is known. Keep necessary technical terms and explain unfamiliar ones for the intended audience. Remove filler, repeated conclusions, inflated claims, and forced enthusiasm. Use connected prose for explanations, lists for parallel items or steps, and tables for comparisons. Use headings to help readers navigate longer documents. Before delivering, check that the main point is easy to find, the reasoning flows, the important qualifications remain, and any next action is clear.
