For me the problem isn't necessarily about physical vs. digital - it's about DRM. I'll keep harping on this: if you can buy your games on GOG- buy your games on GOG!
2026-07-06T17:29:55Z	(#r4uf52ggwseh) Movies and TV are moving in this direction too, but at least for now, I can still access a lot of movies and shows on discs (especially from my local library). I can also make backups of my shows and movies if I have the discs available. As time goes on, [new tools](https://www.xda-developers.com/you-can-now-rip-your-wii-gamecube-xbox-games-blu-ray-drive/) become available to preserve physical games. Physical games at least gives the chance of future preservation in a world where digital is locked behind DRM- [assuming the full game is on the disc](https://www.doesitplay.org/).
