Licensing authority. SMILE is authored by, and its copyright is held by, Haifeng Li
(the "Licensor"). Commercial and OEM licenses are granted by the Licensor and are
obtained through HALO.AI LLC, the Licensor's authorized licensing agent and
reseller (the "Commercial Agent"; sales@aihalo.dev).

SMILE employs a modern multi-product licensing model designed to support
free academic and open-source collaboration while offering commercial licensing
and enterprise support for proprietary and mission-critical deployments.

SMILE is organized into distinct components governed by the following terms:

1. SMILE Libraries & Core Algorithms (Dual License: GPLv3 / Commercial)
==============================================================================

The core mathematical and machine learning libraries (including `base`, `core`,
`nlp`, `deep`, `plot`, `kotlin`, and related modules) are dual-licensed under:

  a) GNU General Public License version 3 (GPLv3):
     You may use, copy, modify, and distribute the software under the terms
     of the GPLv3 as published by the Free Software Foundation.

  b) Commercial / OEM License:
     If you distribute or embed SMILE libraries within proprietary software,
     appliances, client-side applications, or commercial products without
     licensing your combined work under GPLv3, you must obtain a commercial
     OEM license through the Commercial Agent.

     Commercial licenses are also available for organizations that require
     commercial indemnity, enterprise support, guaranteed CVE resolution
     windows, or whose internal policies restrict the use of GPL-licensed software.

2. SMILE Serve (Dual License: AGPLv3 / Commercial Enterprise)

SMILE Serve (`serve`) is the high-throughput, low-latency JVM inference platform
and model serving runtime, dual-licensed under:

  a) GNU Affero General Public License version 3 (AGPLv3):
     Free for open-source systems and applications. In accordance with Section 13
     of the AGPLv3, if you modify the software and allow users to interact with
     it remotely over a network, you must make the Corresponding Source of your
     modified version available to all users under the AGPLv3.

  b) Commercial Enterprise Runtime License:
     For enterprises that operate SMILE Serve in commercial environments without
     AGPLv3 copyleft obligations, or that require enterprise platform capabilities
     (such as high-availability clustering, zero-GC execution, custom SLAs,
     and enterprise support), a Commercial Enterprise Runtime License is required
     and must be obtained through the Commercial Agent.

3. SMILE Studio (Business Source License 1.1 / Commercial)
==============================================================================

SMILE Studio (`studio`) is an agentic data science desktop IDE and model-packaging
environment licensed under the Business Source License 1.1 (BSL 1.1).

  - Use Grant: You may use SMILE Studio free of charge for non-commercial
    evaluation, personal learning, academic research, data exploration, and
    exporting serialized model packages.
  - Commercial & Production Use: Use of SMILE Studio within commercial
    organizations beyond evaluation, or redistribution as part of a commercial
    product, requires a paid commercial license obtained through the Commercial Agent.
  - Change License: After four (4) years from the release date of each respective
    version, that version automatically converts to the GNU Affero General Public
    License version 3.0 (AGPLv3) or later.

A commercial license from the Licensor grants you:
  - Complete freedom from GPLv3, AGPLv3 network-copyleft and BSL restrictions.
  - Full legal rights to embed SMILE in proprietary products and cloud services
    without any obligation to publish your source code or model weights.
  - An intellectual-property indemnity against third-party infringement claims,
    on the terms and within the limits stated in the applicable commercial
    license, together with commercial guarantees of support and security response.
  - Professional support, guaranteed CVE resolution windows, and architecture advisory.
