--- title: Be ware of blind consistency modified: 2026-07-02 --- > [“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little mind.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson](https://www.sahilbloom.com/newsletter/the-dangers-of-blind-consistency) --- The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. --- # Context > Consistency **Blind consistency** is just as bad as inconsistency. Inputs that fail to produce desired outcomes **should be adjusted, not repeated**. **[Adaptive](adaptability.md) consistency** is the key that unlocks your dream life. --- # 邊開火邊移動([Fire & Movement](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_and_movement)) > [“You move towards the enemy while firing your weapon. The firing forces him to keep his head down so he can’t fire at you. The motion allows you to conquer territory and get closer to your enemy, where your shots are much more likely to hit their target. If you’re not moving, the enemy gets to decide what happens, which is not a good thing. If you’re not firing, the enemy will fire at you, pinning you down.” — Joel Spolsky](https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2002/01/06/fire-and-motion/) --- Hand and head work together. Hand teaches _what_ works, while head teaches _why_ things work. * **Craft over theory** — Write code, publish writing, build things. The doing reveals edge cases and friction that no amount of thinking can predict. * **Reflect to refine** — After each iteration of “Hand,” pause for “Head”: what worked, what didn’t, and why? Close the loop. * **Beware of the trap** — Endless learning without creating (all Head, no Hand) is just sophisticated procrastination. Mindless repetition without reflection (all Hand, no Head) is just busywork.
