1. Listen without interrupting
2. Paraphrase what you heard
Start with phrases like:
* “So what I’m hearing is…”
* “It sounds like you’re feeling…”
* “You mean that…”
3. Name the emotion
People don’t just want facts reflected — they want feelings reflected.
* “That sounds really **frustrating**.”
* “It seems like you felt **ignored**.”
* “You’re probably **disappointed** about that.”
4. Check if you got it right
End with a soft question:
* “Did I get that right?”
* “Is that what you mean?”
* “Am I understanding you correctly?”
