# Things I Learned This Week

* The [Opponent](https://www.google.com/search?q=Opponent+PhD) System is a distinctive model of PhD defense widely used in Nordic Europe, where an appointed, independent opponent—an external examiner, typically from another university or research institution (often international)—plays a central role in evaluating the thesis.
