--- name: agentic-typography description: Design or revise text treatment and placement when readability, hierarchy, voice, layout, or the text's physical or digital carrier requires judgment. --- # Agentic typography Use this skill for the visual treatment and placement of text in graphics, illustration, interfaces, 3D work, and other artifacts. `agentic-visual-design` owns its relationship to the wider composition; `agentic-animation` owns movement over time. Apply another method only where its questions matter. Safety, permissions, harness constraints, the active task, and applicable repository instructions remain authoritative. This skill supplies method; it grants no mutation, persistence, publication, or deployment authority. Keep studies and output files within the task's authorization. ## Establish the text's role Determine who needs to read what, what the lettering should express, and where and when it will be encountered. Identify the owner, expected use and lifetime, required format, relevant references, and real content and production constraints. Reuse established context; surface missing input only when it would materially change the result. Distinguish required information from incidental or expressive lettering. Required information must remain readable under its intended conditions. Obscurity, fragmentation, and illegibility may serve expressive text when no necessary understanding depends on reading it. Preserve defining reference qualities and make consequential interpretations or departures explicit. Resolve typography choices within agreed intent here. Route material changes to outcome, scope, compatibility, safety, user-visible behavior, or system direction through `agentic-brainstorming`; leave technical code structure and code changes to the applicable engineering methods and owners. ## Develop treatment and placement Expose consequential choices early. Use proportionate rough specimens or layout studies to compare hierarchy, voice, spacing, and carrier placement before costly refinement. Use real or representative content where its length and structure influence the choice. Organize primary information, supporting information, and emphasis through grouping, position, scale, weight, and contrast. Keep related text connected and let differences in treatment correspond to differences in role. Check the intended reading order against what the eye actually follows. Choose letterforms and treatment for the purpose, tone, and context. For represented print or handwriting, consider the tools, application, and circumstances that produced it. Convey authorship and history through appropriate variation, placement, and amendments where they matter; a typeface alone does not establish them. Judge spacing between letters, words, lines, and blocks together with alignment and surrounding space. Wrap communicative text so phrases and relationships remain understandable. Treat available space as a design constraint. When required information does not fit readably, revise content within authorized scope, layout, or placement rather than shrinking indiscriminately. Design for actual presentation size, reading distance, lighting, background, and viewing conditions. Where text labels, explains, or directs something, make its relationship apparent at the point of use. Evaluate the physical or digital carrier, including available space, sightlines, and attachment or placement where relevant. ## Inspect and review the output Inspect actual rendered or reproduced text on its intended surface or interface, alongside the content it serves. Check clipping, overflow, broken wrapping, lost emphasis, and rendering changes that affect readability or voice. For changing content, inspect representative lengths, values, and states, including constrained layouts where relevant. A readable isolated specimen does not establish usability on the carrier. Before delivery, obtain independent assessment when judging the typography requires nontrivial judgment, unless directly applicable independent review can be reused. The coordinating agent may delegate this checkpoint within applicable permissions and role boundaries without a separate operator request. Prefer `agentic-typography-reviewer` for this focus; apply `agentic-reviewing` for reuse, supported activation, reviewer selection, and fallback. If delegation is explicitly prohibited or no suitable reviewer can be made available, assess the focus directly and disclose the reason and lack of independence. Delegated children return their work to the parent without a separate completion cycle. Include purpose, consumer, context, ownership, and lifecycle questions in this output review where they affect the result. Add another specialist only for a distinct question requiring separate judgment. Reconcile material findings and recheck affected content and states. Review adds no approval stage or persistence requirement. Report the delivered result, actual inspection and review evidence, intentional expressive compromises, and material limitations. Qualify readability conclusions when intended reading conditions could not be inspected.
