ΑΛΚΙΟΥ תחמגזר

This inscription was found on the west side of the tel in Gazara, which is located about midway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, close to Modi'in. It consists of one line of Hebrew and Greek letters. Though there are no spaces between any of the letters, the Hebrew letters have been divided into two words: תחום גזר, which translates as the boundary of Gezer. Clermont-Ganneau also suggested that the Greek word is incomplete and should read ΑΛΚΙΟΥ, which translates as the name Alkaios. The inscription is part of a set of nine, one of which is indecipherable.
