The inscription is engraved in the lower half of the slab. The script is roughly carved and the lines are uneven and slopes diagonally to the right

Two letters were omitted and added as an afterthought above the line. The spelling is as slovenly as the engraving.

May (God's) grace be with Heortasius, the engraver and juggler.

Εἴε χάρις Ἱορτασίου γλύπτου κὴ σφηροπέκτου

The name Ἑορτάσιος is a direct translation of the Hebrew חגי, and it is conceivable that the engraver-juggler may have been a Jew.
