Μαίας Σαουλος

Fragmentary ossuary, very irregularly carved, has inner ledge on three sides and a fragmentary flat, sliding lid. Name is inscribed on the chest's right side. Μαίας is probably the genitive form of the female name Μαῖα, attested on a second century tombstone at Homs and in papyri from Roman Egypt. Σαουλος is a common name, but here the genitive of Σαυλ (Σαωλ). An alpha to the left of the two-line inscription seems to have been a mistake.
