# Privacy Policy for YouTube Comment Moments

YouTube Comment Moments ("the extension") respects your privacy. This policy explains what data is processed and how it is used.

## 1. What the extension does

The extension displays timestamp-based comment markers and in-player comment bubbles on YouTube watch pages to help users discover important moments in videos.

## 2. Data processed by the extension

### a) YouTube page content
The extension reads content from YouTube watch pages, such as:
- comment text and timestamps
- video context information
- publicly visible comment metadata (e.g., likes)

This information is used only to generate timeline markers and synchronized comment bubbles.

### b) Current YouTube page URL
The extension reads the currently open YouTube video URL (for example, the video ID) to determine which video is active.

### c) Local playback state
The extension uses local playback information (such as current video time and marker clicks) to display synchronized comment moments.

### d) Local extension storage
The extension stores settings and cached data locally using `chrome.storage.local`, including:
- user interface preferences
- visibility and display settings
- cached premium users list and refresh timestamp

All stored data remains on the user’s device.

## 3. What we do NOT collect

We do not collect, store, or sell:
- name, email address, phone number, address, ID number
- passwords or authentication credentials
- payment or financial information
- personal messages or private communications
- precise location data

## 4. Third-party requests

To provide functionality, the extension may request publicly available data from:
- YouTube
- YouTube Data API
- alternative public comment APIs (when enabled)
- a public JSON file for the premium users list

The extension only fetches data responses. It does not load or execute remote JavaScript or external code.

## 5. Data usage limitations

User data is not used for advertising, tracking, profiling, or sale to third parties.

## 6. Data retention

All stored data remains in the user’s browser until:
- the extension is uninstalled, or
- the user clears their browser storage.

## 7. Security

The extension only requests permissions necessary for its functionality and stores data locally using Chrome’s extension storage system.

## 8. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated. Any updates will be reflected at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date.
