- The extension reads caption/subtitle text from the current page (for example, on-screen captions or the video’s text track) only to display it in the sidebar and (optionally) speak it aloud.
- Caption text is processed locally on your device and is not sent off-device by this extension.

Data stored on your device
The extension stores only user preferences using Chrome extension storage, such as:
- Whether reading/speaking is enabled
- Caption source selection (auto / on-screen / track)
- Speech rate and target language settings
- Audio mix / sync options
- Sidebar width and UI settings

Third-party services
- None.

Remote code
- The extension does not load or execute remote code (no external scripts, no eval).
