BinaryNotes is a text editor for Android that operates entirely on your device. We believe in complete transparency about data handling, which is why we've created this comprehensive privacy policy.

**We Do Not Collect Personal Information**

BinaryNotes does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. The app operates entirely on your device with no data transmission to external servers.

**Specifically, We Do NOT:**

## Data Storage

**Local Storage Only**

All data created and used by BinaryNotes is stored locally on your device. This includes:

### Application Data
- **App Preferences**: Settings like font size, theme, word wrap, etc.
- **Tab State**: List of open files and their positions
- **Auto-Save Data**: Temporary backup of your work
- **Crash Recovery Data**: Emergency backup in case of app crash
- **Bookmark List**: Files you've bookmarked for quick access
- **Undo/Redo History**: Per-tab edit history (cleared when tab closes)

### User Files
- **Text Documents**: Files you create, open, or edit
- **File Content**: The actual text of your documents
- **File Metadata**: Information like last modified date (from Android OS)

### Storage Locations

**App Private Storage** (`/data/data/com.jamesrussell.binarynotes/`):
- App settings stored in SharedPreferences
- Auto-save data stored as JSON
- Crash recovery backups
- Automatically deleted when you uninstall the app

**User Storage** (your device's documents folder):
- Files you explicitly save to your device
- Locations you choose via file picker
- These are YOUR files and remain yours
- Not deleted when you uninstall the app
- You control access via Android permissions

## Permissions

**Storage Permission**

BinaryNotes requires storage permission to:
- Read text files from your device
- Save edited documents to your device
- Access files you choose to open

**Permission Details**:
- `READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE`: Allows reading files you choose to open
- `WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE`: Allows saving files you choose to save (Android 9 and below)

**How We Use Storage Permission**:
- ✅ Reading files you explicitly select via file picker
- ✅ Writing files to locations you explicitly choose
- ✅ Accessing files opened from other apps
- ❌ Scanning your device for files without permission
- ❌ Reading files you haven't selected
- ❌ Accessing photos, videos, or other media
- ❌ Monitoring or tracking file access

**Modern Storage Access (Android 10+)**:
On Android 10 and above, BinaryNotes uses the Storage Access Framework (SAF), which provides:
- More secure file access
- Better privacy controls
- No need for broad storage permissions
- You grant access per file/folder

**No Other Permissions**

BinaryNotes does not require or request:
- ❌ Internet access
- ❌ Location data (GPS, network location)
- ❌ Camera or microphone access
- ❌ Contacts or calendar access
- ❌ Phone state or SMS capabilities
- ❌ Bluetooth or NFC
- ❌ Background location
- ❌ Body sensors
- ❌ Call logs
- ❌ Any other sensitive permissions

**Permission Revocation**:
You can revoke storage permission at any time through Android settings. If you do:
- BinaryNotes cannot open or save files
- Files already open remain accessible
- App settings remain intact
- You can re-grant permission anytime

## Third-Party Services

BinaryNotes does not:
- Use analytics services
- Include advertising networks
- Integrate social media platforms
- Connect to cloud services
- Use crash reporting services that transmit data

## Children's Privacy

BinaryNotes is safe for users of all ages. Since we collect no data, there are no privacy concerns for children using the app.

### How Your Data is Protected

All data is stored securely on your device using Android's standard security mechanisms. The security of your data depends on:

- Your device's screen lock (PIN, pattern, fingerprint, face unlock)
- Android's built-in app sandboxing (each app has isolated storage)

- Your device's encryption (if enabled in Android settings)

**App-Level Security**:

- No cloud storage or syncing

- Secure file handling using Android SAF

**What This Means**:
- Your files are as secure as your device
- No one can access your data remotely
- No risk of data breaches from our servers (we have none)
- No risk of data interception (no network activity)
- Even we cannot access your files

- Other apps cannot access BinaryNotes data

All data remains under your complete control on your device.

## Uninstalling the App

When you uninstall BinaryNotes:
- All app data stored in the app's private directory is removed by Android
- Files you created or edited in your device storage remain (as they are your files)
- App preferences and settings are removed
