In some countries it isn't permitted to store the IP address of your visitors. You can disable it here.

Event Handling

Handle Old Events:
Select one of the three options. 'Delete old Events' will delete all Events after the number of days entered in in the box below. If you select 'Archive old Events' the Events will get the 'Archived' status after the number of days given in the next settings field.
Please note that JEM triggers this cleanup action once a day after midnight server time and only if a JEM view got a visitor in the Frontend. If you want to make sure that the cleanup happens, create a cronjob pointing to a JEM component view.

Number of Days:
Just to specify when an event is "old".

Image Handling:

Allowed Image Files:
File extensions which will be accepted on image uploads. By default jpg, png, gif and webp are accepted. Other extensions may work generally but may cause unexpected effects e.g. if using Lightbox.

Max. Image Filesize:
Enter the maximum size in kb for the image file.

Max. Height of Thumbnails:
Type in the maximum height of the image. This value is also used on the Frontend.

Max. Width of Thumbnails:

Enable Thumbnails:
JEM can create thumbnails if the GD library version 2 is installed on your server. If it isn't available this feature will be disabled. In this case the above entered values for hight and width will be used to resize the images if they are larger than these values. Keep in mind that this method results in a much lower quality than using the GD library. Also the file size of the images aren't reduced.

Lightbox Effect:
Enable a nice lightbox effect to enlarge images from thumbnail to maximum size.

Attention

If you define an image width of more than the width of 20% of the content area, you have to modify the jem.css accordingly.

Meta Options

Edit Keywords:
Select in the box multiple keywords.

Edit Description:
In the textbox you can create your own custom meta description. Use the suggest button for a hint. The description is created in the Event edit screen and within the Event submission process from the Frontend automatically.

Default List Limit:
Choose the number of events to display on the Frontend views.

Show Category Images:
Choose if you want to show the Category images in the Frontend.

Generate Events up to (days):
Enter the maximum amount of days that JEM should auto-create recurring events in the future. This is called the 'anticipation window'. This setting has effect when you create recurring events. If the enddate you choose for a specific recurring event (the 'By the end of' date) will exceed the anticipation set here, the number of recurring events that JEM creates will be limited by this setting. You set the 'By the end of' date in the Repeating Events section of the Event edit screen, or when submitting an event from the Frontend.

Associated Articles

Use Associated Articles:
Enable this option when JEM should create or link Joomla articles for events. Associated articles are useful when an event needs a longer editorial page, Joomla content plugins, custom modules, or a stable article URL beside the normal JEM event page.

Associated Article Title Format:
Defines the article title used for one-time events and for the parent event of a recurring series. You can combine plain text with placeholders such as {title}, {id}, {date}, {time}, and {lang}. The {lang} placeholder inserts the two-letter language code, for example en or es. Events assigned to all languages leave {lang} empty.

New event content article:
Controls what JEM does when an event uses its associated article as the event content and JEM must create a new Joomla article automatically. JEM can copy the current event description into the article, create an empty article and show an edit notice, or create an empty article and open the Joomla article editor.

New Associated Article Access:
Defines the access level for new associated Joomla articles created by JEM. The default option, Use Joomla category access, copies the access level from the Joomla category where the article is created. You can also select any Joomla access level to force all newly-created associated articles to use that access level.

New Associated Article Image:
Defines whether the JEM event image is copied into the Joomla article image fields when JEM creates a new associated article. The image can be copied as the Joomla article intro image, as the full article image, or into both fields. This only affects newly-created articles; it does not overwrite images in an existing associated article.

When event content changes:
Defines what JEM does when an existing event uses its associated Joomla article as the event content source and an editor later changes the event title, alias, description, metadata, or image in JEM. JEM can leave the article untouched, ask the editor after saving, or update the associated article automatically. The recommended default is to ask after saving, because the Joomla article may contain manual editorial changes or translated content.

Show More Information / More Information Text:
Controls whether the event detail page displays a link or button to the associated article, and defines the text used for that link.

Associated Article Date:
Controls whether the generated Joomla article keeps the current article date or uses the JEM event date.

Recurring Event Articles:
Choose how articles are handled for recurring events. You can create only the first article, share the first article with the complete recurring series, or create one separate article for each generated occurrence.

Recurring Article Title Format:
This field is shown when recurring events create one article per occurrence. It supports the same placeholders as the normal article title format and also supports counters. Use {#} for a plain counter, {##} for a two-digit counter, or {###} for a three-digit counter.

Event content article fields:
These options only apply when an individual event is configured to use its associated Joomla article as the event content source. They define which article fields replace the JEM event fields on the frontend and in integrations: title, alias, intro text, full text, metadata, and image.

Missing language fallback:
Defines what JEM shows when an event uses the associated Joomla article as event content, but there is no published associated article for the current language. You can show no article content, use the Joomla default-language article, or fall back to the content stored directly in the JEM event.

Format Example result Typical use
{date} - {title} 2026-06-20 - Concert in Madrid One-time event articles ordered by date.
{title} ({date} {time}) Concert in Madrid (2026-06-20 19:30:00) Events where the time must be visible in the article title.
{title} {##} Workshop 01, Workshop 02, Workshop 03 Recurring events with one article per occurrence.
{title} ({lang}) Concert in Madrid (es) Multilingual article sets where generated titles should identify the article language.
{###} - {title} - {date} 001 - Workshop - 2026-06-20 Long recurring series that need stable sortable titles.

Recommended setups

Use one shared article when the recurring series has the same editorial content for every date. Use one article per occurrence when each occurrence needs its own text, date-specific information, modules, comments, or SEO title. Add {##} or {###} to the recurring title format when generated titles must stay unique and easy to sort.

Multilingual example

Create a JEM event in the default language and set Associated article usage to Event content. Link or create a Joomla article for the event description, then create Joomla article associations for the translated article versions. When visitors switch language, JEM keeps the same event and resolves the associated article for the current language. If no translation exists, the Missing language fallback setting decides whether JEM uses the default-language article, the original JEM event content, or no article content.

Timezone Handling:
You can select how the dates will be exported. If you chose 'float', when imported, all dates will appear as being in the same timezone as the user (e.g: if the event is at 2pm in the US, and the user is in France, it will appear as being held at 2pm in France too).
If you use 'Joomla' timezone, the dates will be associated to the timezone set in Joomla configuration.

First Day of Week:
Choose if Sunday or Monday is the first day of the week. This setting has an impact on the Calendar display.

Attachment Folder Path:
You can specify the path of the attachments here. Default is media/com_jem/attachments

Allowed Files:
You can specify the attachment file extensions that are allowed to be uploaded.

Max Filesize:
Specify the maximum size of Attachments and Event Images in kb. (1 mb is 1000 kb)

Default Country:
You can set a default country for venues in this field. When entering a new venue the country is then set to the default chosen here, to save handling.

CSV Separator:
Choose if comma or semicolon should be used as separator between fields on CSV Imports/Exports (e.g. attendee lists).

CSV Delimiter:
Choose if quote or double-quote should be used to embrace fields on CSV Imports/Exports (e.g. attendee lists).

Insert BOM for UTF-8 handling:
Adds a 4-bytes string to the beginning of the export File to help Spreadsheet Software (i.e. Excel) to properly import data as UTF-8 encoded
