# Share a demo with Tape

Tape (https://use-tape.com) is a free browser screen recorder. Hosted shares are created only after a real recording: capture in the recorder, land on preview, then press **Upload & share**. Do not treat Tape as a generic file host and do not upload arbitrary MP4/WebM through any other API.

## When to use

- Demo, walkthrough, Loom-style video, or "show me / show them how"
- Async handoff that needs a short screen recording and a share link
- Bug report or feature walkthrough clearer as video than text

## Hard rules

1. **Recording-first.** Path is always: `https://use-tape.com/record` → record → `/preview/...` → **Upload & share** → `https://use-tape.com/tape/<id>`. Never invent a direct file-upload tool.
2. **Return a Tape share URL** (`https://use-tape.com/tape/<id>`). Do not substitute YouTube, Loom, Drive, or a raw file.
3. **Auth timing.** Recording can start signed out. Sign-in is required when you click **Upload & share**. Prefer email magic link over password when the UI offers it.
4. **Keep demos short** (about 30–90 seconds unless the user asks for longer). Free accounts have a hosted-video cap.
5. **Human gates are normal.** Display-capture permission and magic-link email both need the user. Pause, ask for the single next click or paste, then resume. Do not invent credentials or skip upload.

## Mode A: Agent-recorded (preferred when you have a desktop/browser)

You act as a Tape user in your browser.

1. Draft a tight script (goal, 3–5 beats, close). Suggested title: `{topic} demo - {one outcome}`.
2. Open https://use-tape.com/record
3. Prefer screen-only. Start recording. If a display-capture picker appears, choose the full desktop or browser window. If you cannot complete Allow yourself, stop and ask the user to click Allow, then continue.
4. Drive the demo UI (or open the target site in another tab) while recording. Stop when done.
5. On `/preview/...`, set the title.
6. Click **Upload & share** (or **Upload with summary** if AI summary is useful).
7. If login appears:
   - Use the Tape account the user named for agent demos (if none named, ask once).
   - Enter the email and request the magic / email sign-in link.
   - Tell the user to paste the unique sign-in URL from their email.
   - Open that URL exactly, wait until auth completes and you are back on use-tape.com.
   - Return to the same preview if needed and click **Upload & share** again.
8. When upload finishes, copy the share URL and send it to the user first. One short line of context is enough.

If the preview session is gone after login, report that and ask whether to re-record. Do not upload a file from disk as a workaround.

## Mode B: User-recorded (no usable recorder)

1. Give them a short script and https://use-tape.com/record
2. Ask them to record, press **Upload & share**, and paste the `use-tape.com/tape/...` link back.
3. Confirm the link and stop. Do not re-host elsewhere.

## After you have the link

- Lead with the Tape URL.
- Optionally note length and what was shown.
- Do not download and re-upload to another service.

- Turning Tape into a generic video sharing site
- MCP/tools that accept arbitrary video uploads outside the recorder → Upload & share path
- Paid ads or directory spam tied to this skill
