The medium-risk zone provides neither the safety of the conservative position nor the upside-asymmetry of the aggressive one. Fragility hides in the middle; antifragility lives at the two ends. ## Mechanism A medium-risk position has medium downside (still meaningful loss potential) without compensating upside (no chance of outsized gains). Aggregate medium-risk allocations therefore produce average outcomes with above-average tail risk, the worst combination.
