Connect one existing tool first, write one workflow in plain English, prove it works, then expand. ## Mechanism Each tool added to an MCP stack multiplies the surface area for model errors. Before the first workflow is validated, there is no baseline error rate to reason from. Adding tools at this stage stacks unknown-unknown failure modes. A single validated workflow gives a measurable error rate. Subsequent tools are added against a known baseline, and failure modes are bounded. ## Conditions Holds when: teams are adopting MCP for outbound for the first time. If the first tool is a low-consequence read-only operation, strict staging is less critical. Full-stack deployments are not inherently wrong.
