# MSTest Migration Summary

## Overview

Successfully migrated from GoogleTest to Microsoft Unit Testing Framework for C++ (MSTest).

## Changes Made

### 1. Project Structure Refactoring

- Created `lastexecuterecord.core` static library project
  - Contains all core functionality: TimeUtil, Json, Config, FileUtil, CommandRunner
  - Location: `src/lastexecuterecord.core/`
  
- Updated `lastexecuterecord` executable project
  - Now contains only `main.cpp`
  - Links to `lastexecuterecord.core` as a project reference
  - Location: `src/lastexecuterecord/`

### 2. Test Framework Migration

- Created `lastexecuterecord.mstest` Native Unit Test Project
  - Uses Microsoft Unit Testing Framework for C++ (MSTest)
  - No external dependencies required (GoogleTest, vcpkg, etc.)
  - Location: `src/lastexecuterecord.mstest/`

- Implemented 5 test classes with comprehensive coverage:
  - **TimeUtilTests.cpp**: ISO UTC parsing/formatting, round-trip tests
  - **JsonTests.cpp**: JSON parsing/writing, various data types, error handling
  - **CommandRunnerTests.cpp**: Windows command-line argument quoting
  - **ConfigTests.cpp**: Config loading/validation, defaults, temporary file tests
  - **FileUtilTests.cpp**: UTF-8 file I/O, atomic writes, file locking, path operations

### 3. Dependency Cleanup

- Removed GoogleTest project (`src/lastexecuterecord.tests/`)
- Removed vcpkg dependencies:
  - `gtest` from `src/vcpkg.json`
  - `doctest` from root `vcpkg.json`
- Updated documentation:
  - `src/README.md` - Updated project structure description
  - `src/README.vcpkg-tests.md` - Now describes MSTest usage (no vcpkg required)

### 4. Solution Configuration

Updated `src/lastexecrecord.sln` to include:
- `lastexecuterecord` (main executable)
- `lastexecuterecord.core` (static library)
- `lastexecuterecord.mstest` (test project)

All projects configured for all platforms: Debug/Release × Win32/x64/ARM64

## How to Use

### Opening the Solution

1. Open `src/lastexecrecord.sln` in Visual Studio 2022 or later
2. Build the solution (Ctrl+Shift+B)

### Running Tests

1. Open Test Explorer (Test → Test Explorer)
2. Tests will automatically appear
3. Click "Run All" to execute all tests

No additional setup or dependencies required!

## Test Coverage

The tests cover all major functionality as specified in `docs/unit-test-design-twada.md`:

- ✅ TimeUtil: Date/time formatting and parsing
- ✅ Json: Parsing and writing various JSON types
- ✅ CommandRunner: Argument quoting for Windows
- ✅ Config: Loading, validation, and defaults
- ✅ FileUtil: UTF-8 I/O, atomic writes, file locking

## Benefits

1. **No external dependencies**: MSTest is built into Visual Studio
2. **Better IDE integration**: Tests appear natively in Test Explorer
3. **Simpler setup**: No vcpkg or package management required
4. **Clear separation**: Core library can be used independently
5. **Maintainable**: Standard Microsoft testing framework

## Migration Complete

All requirements from the original task have been fulfilled:
- ✅ Core functionality in static library
- ✅ Main executable links to core library
- ✅ MSTest project with comprehensive tests
- ✅ GoogleTest/vcpkg dependencies removed
- ✅ Tests discoverable in Test Explorer
- ✅ Documentation updated
