Renault wants to be carbon neutral in Europe by 2040 and globally by 2050. The company is exploring new power options at an old plant in Douai, France - geothermal!
Oh, cool, so they are building a volcano ๐? No, that's more Bond villain-y than the reality of geothermal power. By drilling down about 13K feet, the factory will draw energy from the hot water below the Earth's crust.
Drilling will begin in 2023, with carbon-free heating and electricity production starting after 2025.
