DEALER STORIES
The 2022 Champions Of Charity
It's not a secret. We love telling dealer stories. Stories that show who dealers really are. While cruising our usual channels to find such stories, we came across a story from September that has evaded us. The Champions of Charity is a program recognizing auto industry members for charitable works in their community.
Auto Success Magazine has recognized such dealers for years, but the 15 2022 honorees are the first group to receive the new title of Champions of Charity.
This year's honorees are:
APCO Holdings
Beaver Toyota of Cumming
Craig Zinn Automotive Group
Fresno Acura
Kunes Auto Group
Manheim
NextGear Capital
Patriot Automotive Group
Premier Automotive
Reynolds and Reynolds
ProMax
Sansone Jrβs 66 Automall
Step One Automotive Group
The Thompson Organization

Telling it like it is - Always good to see recognition going around!

Wholesale Prices And Consumer Confidence Dips
ππ’ Cox Automotive data for October is out and shows used wholesale prices down for the 5th month in a row.
ππ€ A 2.2% dip from September to October brings the total to a 10.6% decline year over year.
ππͺ Cox reports consumer confidence declined 4.9% vs. an expected 1.9%. At the same time, plans to buy a vehicle in the next six months bounced to their highest level since July 2020.
π€π΄ Stock market drama, mid-term election noise, and Fed rate hikes likely contributed to the increased consumer wariness.
Reminder - Data isn't good or bad. It's just data. How we adapt to it is what counts. πͺ

News And Paraphrases
We decided to include none of the actual quotes in these pieces and instead share an almost undetectable paraphrase in each piece.
The EU banned ICE vehicles as of 2035. One EU commissioner says European automakers should keep selling gas-powered vehicles, just to the neighbors like a really generous gift.
Thierry Breton suggests that the EU remains an export force for combustion vehicles because of job loss anxiety and a possible lack of understanding of how emissions work. (They don't obey borders)
Mercedes-Benz CEO said Monday that it would be silly of the highest order to write China off. Following weeks of companies responding to the Inflation Reduction Act with US investments, German lawmakers have urged companies to diversify.
Recently, a delegation of business leaders accompanied German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to China. Scholz is the first western leader to visit President Xi Jinping since his term extension.
Carvana's stock value was halted Monday briefly due to a sell-off fueled volatility. Shares hit an all-time low below $7 each after 9.2M changed hands in the first 22 minutes of trading.
Carvana CEO Ernie Garcia said last week the company was heading to some potential ouchy times. We think he originally meant something further away than a week in the future.
TL; DR - The EU bans ICE at home, but play your cards right, and they will sell you some. Germany is still business friends with China. Carvana is still learning how deep a down month goes.

Through cars, charging, and robotics Ben Hadley ponders how someday everybody who drives, sells, or builds cars may be in Tesla's ecosystem.
Telling it like it is - Think long enough, and everything leads to robots.
