Speed To Market

gotta hurry gif

This week David Long and the All Things Used Cars community were joined by David Simches and Michael Boyd to talk about challenges and opportunities of getting used inventory to market quickly. A full replay can be heard here, but here are a few notes to get you started.

And just as a reminder, All Things Used Cars will be LIVE from ASOTU CON in Philly THIS WEEKEND. Get your tickets now!

 ⏰💸Time isn't free.
You pay for a car every minute between buying and selling it.

📖🖊Define the process.
Winging it creates delays. Delays cost time, money, and the quality of the customer's experience.

💪🕵Equip your appraisers.
A good appraisal needs to know the reconditioning costs and the value of the care in your market.

🛠🚙Set up your service department.
Communicate with service quickly so when the car comes for reconditioning, the tires, parts, processes, and awareness are all ready for it.

❓❗Without the why, the how doesn't matter.
Your whole team needs to know why speed to market matters and why each step of your process should be cared for with passion.

🚫🏃The market stops for no one.
Find your bottlenecks and blind spots, then deal with them. There is a good chance you don't know what you don't know. Invite other opinions, listen to other operators, and learn everything you can.

Telling it like it is — The best guidance feels like steps - not destinations. Each week All Things Used Cars provides great guidance to people in each pocket of the industry.

Chinese EV August

scratchy tickets gif

Shares in three top Chinese EV makers have
dropped following delivery slowdowns in August.

Li Auto deliveries dropped 51% year-over-year.
Xpeng, while down 16% from July, has a 33% increase year-over-year
Nio was up 6% compared to July and an astounding 81.6% year-over-year.

Now for the strange part. US and Hong Kong share values of all three companies dropped. Despite good performances mixed in, confidence in the Chinese economy has been shaken by repeated blows to the supply chain, covid lockdowns, and now limited access to charging.

Telling it like it is — It’s like stock values are less like report cards and more like lottery tickets.

GM Offers Buick Buyout

money GO gif

GM is offering buyouts to franchise Buick dealers who do not want to make required investments in the brand's shift to all-electric.

The automaker will give “monetary assistance” to dealers choosing to leave the Buick brand. Roughly 2000 US franchise dealers sell Buick in addition to other GM brands.

Telling it like it is — The first domino in GM’s “Get electric or get gone” plan is teetering, yall.

The Rings of Power

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is out now, and fans seem pleased! The prequel to the film series pulls inspiration from the extensive Tolkien world of Middle Earth. It covers material found in the Silmarillion, a collection of stories that flesh out the world's lore.

With years of time, money, hopes, and dreams wrapped up in the show, It is sure to scratch any fantasy itch you may have. That is, if you have Amazon Prime and HBO’s House of Dragons isn't already meeting that need.

Asking The Experts — What Tolkien/fantasy character are you?

“half-elf bard with an oration focus, meaning I don’t play an instrument, I just talk real good” - Nathan@asotu.com (a total nerd)

“Myles the Magenta, Wizard of Premiere” -
