Are You Ready For A Changing Market?
CARS.com published research on how global conditions have transformed consumer car shopping experiences. The report surveyed in-market consumers from CARS.com's research panel, the Driver's Seat Community. Participants had to be in-market +/- six months and have acquired a vehicle within the last nine years. Host David Long and special guest Bradley Allred broke down the study's findings for the All Things Used Cars community. Read the recap here, or listen to a full replay on Clubhouse.
Riddle — “How do you read a consumer’s mind?” Cars.com: “ask ‘em?”

FTC Announces Data Security Rules For Dealers
The FTC's Safeguards Rule has updated dealer guidelines for protecting customer data from breaches and cyberattacks. The new rule sets specific criteria, formal employee training, and third-party audit requirements to ensure a dealer and its vendors follow the guidelines.
Specifics? Many dealers will find they are already in compliance. The 2003 Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act designated dealers as financial institutions due to customer financing agreements.
All dealers will be required to:
- Perform a proper audit of internal and vendor systems
- Appoint a qualified individual to oversee information security
- Implement encryption and two-factor authentication systems
- Perform regular intrusion-detection tests
- Train all employees on the new measures.

Airbnb Announces WFH Support
Brian Chesky, Airbnb CEO, and co-founder says all of the company's employees are free to live and work anywhere. The announcement comes as other companies pull back WFH options leading to some workers quitting.
Anywhere? Due to tax, payroll, and time zone complexities, many companies cannot provide this level of flexibility. Chesky said they hope to find an open-source way to resolve those issues long-term, but all workers can now live and work in 170 countries for 90 days a year without triggering any severe problems with the proposed model.
