ASOTU Family,

January 2022 is off to a faster start than I ever could have imagined. It seems that there is more opportunity and synergy across the industry than many of us have ever experienced before and it is energizing to watch the entrepreneurial nature of Retail Automotive shine brightly.

It’s not always easy. But we didn’t really expect it to be.

Keep Pushing Back,

General Motors is launching a new app for used car purchases, putting it into competition with other technology-heavy used car dealers, such as Carvana, and third party aggregators.

Telling it like it is — Insert ‘wildly optimistic’ face here.

Breaking all previous records, overall used car sales are up 10 percent. However, the portion of those sales that were sold by automotive retailers (Dealers, Carvana, Etc) were up nearly 13%.

Musk Tweeted Jan 14th that, after trying the cryptocurrency out for a month, Tesla will begin accepting the meme-based Dogecoin for purchases of merchandise. As a vocal supporter of the cryptocurrency, Musk has been influential in its penetration of corporate culture and its explosive increase in value over 2021. With other auto giants preparing to launch their EVs this year, crypto-based meme marketing may become something we see more of in the near future.

Telling it like it is — The Cybertruck release date gets pushed back a year...Oh look, we are now accepting Dogecoin!

Kanye West released a music video for his song "Heaven and Hell" this week. The music video debuted as a sponsored ad in the College Football National Championship on Jan 10th and heavily featured a signature hoodie West and clothing company, Gap, collaborated on. With a new GAP collaboration already announced, the video has been received as the blend of marketing and art that fans of the endlessly innovative Ye have come to enjoy.

Telling it like it is — Building an amazing 26-year music career seems like an exhausting way to sell hoodies, but you do you, Ye.

Square Co-Founder and former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey floated the idea of building an open Bitcoin mining operation a few months ago and just announced they are moving ahead with the idea.

Telling it like it is — It’s ok if you don’t fully understand why this is important yet. Because…crypto.

What started out as a channel for cute girls hairstyling turned into an empire with a slew of popular youtube channels that are stunningly ordinary. Here is one of them.

Telling it like it is —  We don’t pick em, your kids do.
