An Archive cleanup problem is typically detected by Rhapsody when the archive cleanup process run from the Management Console results in large disk space usage.
A frequent cause of cleanup issues is old messages on the Error Queue, or other stopped Rhapsody components with a queue of messages waiting for processing. In these cases, the queue of messages needs to be cleaned up. Defensive design approaches should be considered to minimize further messages from sitting on these components for extended lengths of time.
In versions of Rhapsody prior to 5.5, known issues with the file access logic can sometimes prevent Rhapsody from successfully deleting archive files. Where archive cleanup issues occur on older versions of Rhapsody, a restart of the Rhapsody service typically allows the archive process to correctly perform the cleanup.
