# Love Compass - Privacy Policy

## Overview

Love Compass is a private location-sharing app designed exclusively for couples. This privacy policy explains how your data is collected, used, and protected.

## Data We Collect

### Location Data
- **What:** Your device's GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude).
- **How:** Collected when the app is in use and in the background (with your permission).
- **Storage:** Only your most recent location is stored on our server. No location history is retained. Each new update overwrites the previous one.
- **Purpose:** To show your partner where you are and to calculate the direction and distance between you.

### Device Identifier
- **What:** A randomly generated UUID unique to your device.
- **How:** Generated on first app launch and stored securely in your device's Keychain.
- **Purpose:** To identify your device within a couple pairing. This is not linked to your Apple ID, name, or any personal information.

### Pairing Code
- **What:** An 8-character alphanumeric code shared between two devices.
- **Purpose:** To link two devices as a couple. Stored securely in your device's Keychain.

## Data We Do NOT Collect

- Your name, email address, or phone number
- Your Apple ID or any account information
- Location history or movement patterns
- Contacts, photos, or any other device data
- Analytics, usage statistics, or behavioral data
- Advertising identifiers

## How Data Is Used

Your location data is used solely to:
1. Display your position on your partner's map
2. Calculate the compass bearing and distance to your partner
3. Determine if your location data is fresh or stale

## Data Sharing

We do **not** share your data with any third parties. Your location is only visible to the one other device paired with yours.

## Data Storage and Security

- Location data is stored on a secure server with HTTPS encryption in transit.
- Only the latest location per device is stored; no historical data exists.
- All API communication uses TLS/HTTPS encryption.
- Sensitive credentials (device ID, pairing code) are stored in the iOS Keychain, the most secure storage available on iOS devices.
- Rate limiting protects against unauthorized access attempts.

## Data Retention

- **Active use:** Your latest location is stored while you are actively using the app.
- **Pausing:** You can pause location sharing at any time. When paused, your coordinates are not disclosed to your partner.
- **Unpairing:** When you unpair, all data associated with your couple (locations, poke history) is permanently deleted from the server.
- **No backups:** Location data is not backed up or archived.

## Your Rights

- **Pause sharing:** Toggle location sharing on or off at any time from the app.
- **Unpair:** Delete all your data by unpairing from the Settings screen.
- **Revoke permissions:** Revoke location permission from iOS Settings at any time.
- **Delete the app:** Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

## Background Location

Love Compass requests "Always" location permission so it can update your position even when the app is in the background. This allows your partner to see your location without you needing to keep the app open. You can change this to "While Using" or disable it entirely in iOS Settings.

## Children's Privacy

Love Compass is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

## Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top indicates when changes were last made.
