Interesting historic olde-worldy pub nestling at the top of a flight of steps leading directly off the harbour side in Torquay. Used to be in the GBG, but lost its place recently. It has everything going for it to be a superb pub....but! Too often the staff appear more interested in each other than the customer; the beer range is predictable, though reasonably well kept; the food is average and the toilets passable. In truth there appears to be that 'something special' missing...atmosphere or whatever....that prevents the Hole in the Wall from being top class.

Visited this pub with a several friends at 1.30pm on the 6/7/2011. Sadly left again at 1.40pm having not been served....not I must say because they were very busy, but simply because the bar was left unattended for the ten minutes we waited. Not a sign or sound of staff, and no means of attracting attention...short of shouting! Therefore this pub has been given a zero rating on this occasion and it might take some persuading for me to be willing to walk up a steep flight of steps simply to be ignored. Not the best way to run a pub in the present economic climate.
