This is a very welcome stopover for anyone sailing in Western Scotland. It's bang on the seafront at Port Bannatyne on the Isle of Bute, Argyll. It's an ancient stone-built village inn taken over by two Russian ladies ten years ago. They've 4 economical guestrooms; you pay just £64 for a double/twin including massive Russian breakfasts. The food is ACE, the fish and crayfish come in flapping in the bucket. The Russian dishes are very interesting. So the beers? Well there are no handpumps, the beer is dispensed direct from casks up on the bar. Fresh good ales from the Houston Brewery near Paisley. They also have Erdinger Weissbeer on tap both blonde and dunkel. Lagers are from Russia as are the wines and vodkas. There a log fire, piano, games of chess and cards, candle-light and fresh flowers. My wife and crew of four were all very impressed which is why I've put this little guide here....it's quite difficult to get Real Ales and good food in these parts.

Just along the seashore from Port Bannatyne Marina this great Russian bar/restaurant provides just what you need after a day or two at sea. Warm, comfortable, great food, excellent beers and a good atmosphere. Lots of foreign tourists were there and all were very impressed at the Russian way of doing things. Can't help but hope it rubs off on the Scots!!
