# Buddhist

> **1/1 Grail**: [Buddhist Grail (#9503)](../../grails/buddhist.md)

## Cultural Context

**Figures Associated:**

**Events Associated / Significant Cultural Impact:**
1. The Techno Temple; Gyōsen Asakura transformed Shō-onji temple in Fukui City, Japan, into a "techno temple," hosting memorial services blending IDM and breakbeats with Buddhist chants and psychedelic light shows to represent the Pure Land.

2. "Secret Drugs of Buddhism"; Mike Crowley's book argues that amrita (a Vajrayāna sacramental drink) was psychoactive, challenging the notion that Buddhism inherently prohibits mind-altering substances and tracing entheogenic roots in Buddhist practice.

**Fashion Icons / Symbolism:** Dharma Wheel, Enso, orange robe, black robe, singing bowl, prayer beads
